Co Meath VEC announce €43,561 for Youth Grants

The Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs have allocated €43,561 allocated to County Meath VEC for distribution to youth groups in County Meath.  The Local Youth Club Grant Scheme is an annual event and the allocation was calculated having regard to the cohort of young people between the ages of 10 and 24 in Co Meath VEC area as per the 2006 Census figures.

Last year almost 90 clubs applied for the Local Youth Club Grant Scheme. Any club can apply and Elma McMahon, Youth Officer will advise them of their eligibility if they are unsure themselves.

A youth group under the criteria for the designation of local voluntary youth work organisations must

• Be either youth club based or youth activity based
• Involve at least 8 young people less than 25 years
• Programme/ service must be provided within County Meath VEC area
• Be voluntary in nature
• Have clear financial records and systems

Usually this grant is focused on equipment for Youth Clubs but may also be used to carry out small scale improvements to Youth Club premises. Some clubs have used it for training and development purposes. Last year a presentation night was organised in the Ardboyne Hotel with Blue Jean County Queen Celine  Smyth as the special guest.

The scheme will be advertised locally in October and the closing date for applications will be the 9th December 2011.
