The Department of Education and Skills has indicated that it intends to establish a new 1,000 place post-primary school in Navan by September 2013 and Meath VEC are seeking the patronage of this school. Co Meath Vocational Education Committee (VEC) is the local statutory education authority in Meath and is the leading provider of second level education in the county.
Since its inception under the Vocational Education Act 1930, County Meath VEC has educated thousands of students. The VEC has a proven track record with regard to academic achievement with excellent results both at Junior and Leaving Certificate each year. Our schools feature at the top end of all the lists showing numbers transferring to Univirsities and Institutes of Technologies. We also build the finest schools. In the last 12 years, we have completed the buildings of four schools- St Peters Community College Dunboyne, Ratoath College, St Oliver Post Primary Oldcastle and Coláiste Poball Rathcairn, with a fifth school, Coláiste na hInse under construction. The new school in Johnstown Navan will be a mixed, multi-denominational VEC community school.
